Former All-Pro defensive end Marcellus Wiley is an NFL analyst for ESPN, and a co-host of Max & Marcellus on 710AM ESPN Radio Los Angeles. Wiley regularly appears on NFL Live, SportsCenter, First Take, and ESPNews, while also contributing to ESPN's Super Bowl coverage.
A native of Compton, California, Wiley graduated from Columbia University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology. On the gridiron, he helped Columbia improve from a 2-8 record his freshman year to 8-2 his senior season. He earned first team All-Ivy honors in 1994, and was named Sports Illustrated National Defensive Player of the Week when he had two sacks, forced and recovered a fumble, intercepted a pass and scored a touchdown as a running back while playing on both sides of the ball against Yale. He also earned All-American and All-Conference honors in 1996 and was named the Sid Luckman team MVP. He was inducted into the Columbia University Athletics Hall of Fame in the inaugural class of 2006.
A second round pick of the Buffalo Bills in the 1997 NFL Draft, Wiley played for four teams: Buffalo, San Diego, Dallas and Jacksonville. He was a Pro Bowl starter and led the Chargers in sacks in 2001. After a 10-year NFL career, Wiley joined ESPN in 2007, primarily as a studio analyst on ESPN2's First Take. He also served as a game analyst for ESPN's Arena Football League telecasts in 2008.
Wiley, who resides in Manhattan Beach, California, was an All-Westside, All-Conference and All-League selection at Saint Monica High in Santa Monica, California, where his No. 3 was retired in 2002. In addition to his athletic success, Wiley was honored academically as a member of the California Scholastic Federation and the National Honor Society. In 2009, Wiley was named the recipient of the Advocate Award by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence for his invaluable activism and dedication to raising awareness about reducing gun violence. Among his varied interests, Wiley is a featured contributor to Athletes Quarterly magazine, co-founder of Prolebrity, an online sports community for professional athletes, and an accomplished DJ.
